In 2010 the samiti published its twentieth-anniversary account, जन अभियान से जन संस्थान की ओर — “From a mass campaign towards a people's institution”. It carries the record from 1990 to 2010. A second, handwritten register carries it on from 2010 to 2020. Everything on this page comes from those two documents: a year-by-year account of what was done, where, and with whose support.
2010 में समिति ने अपनी बीसवीं वर्षगाँठ का लेखा-जोखा प्रकाशित किया — जन अभियान से जन संस्थान की ओर। उसमें 1990 से 2010 तक का ब्योरा है। एक दूसरी, हस्तलिखित पंजी उसे 2010 से 2020 तक ले जाती है। इस पृष्ठ की हर बात इन्हीं दो दस्तावेज़ों से है: वर्ष-दर-वर्ष कि क्या हुआ, कहाँ हुआ, और किसके सहयोग से।
The cover carries the subtitle निर्माण के लिए आन्दोलन — a movement for building — and the line “हम मना रहे हैं अपने सफर का २०वाँ वर्ष, दर्जनों महत्वपूर्ण उपलब्धियों के साथ”: we are marking the twentieth year of our journey, with dozens of significant achievements.

The organisation was built in stages, and each stage has its own date. The booklet records all four.

“1990 में हम बिहार के सिर्फ एक समूह थे।” — “In 1990 we were just one group in Bihar.” The organisational structure develops as the Bihar state unit of Bharat Gyan Vigyan Samiti, alongside Gyan Vigyan Jatha 1990.

A permanent state centre — राज्य केन्द्र का निर्माण, 17 मार्च 1991, “establishment of the state centre, 17 March 1991”. Until then, the booklet records, there was no organisation in Bihar creating awareness of the causes of deprivation, and no concept of Kala Jatha at all.

“At the first conference, held at Patna on 26 January 1996, Gyan Vigyan Samiti was organised out of the Bihar unit of Bharat Gyan Vigyan Samiti.” On this day the Samiti was constituted as a body of its own — which is why 1996 is sometimes cited as its founding year.
“26 जनवरी 1996 को पटना में हुए प्रथम सम्मेलन में भारत ज्ञान विज्ञान समिति की बिहार इकाई से ज्ञान विज्ञान समिति का संगठन हुआ।” इस दिन समिति अपने स्वतंत्र स्वरूप में गठित हुई — इसीलिए कभी-कभी 1996 को स्थापना वर्ष के रूप में उद्धृत किया जाता है।
Registered as a society at Patna, No. 67 of 1997–98, under the Societies Registration Act 1860 — “भारत ज्ञान विज्ञान समिति के विमर्श से”, in consultation with the national body.

The General Secretary's foreword to the 2010 booklet lists what had been achieved by 1995 — in the samiti's own words. It ends with the membership: 33,000 people took primary membership in 1995; by 2010 the figure was 38,236.

Through the Kala Jathas we built a caravan, and made a road to the last person in society. Through literacy we gave a platform to people in distress… With the Samata Kala Jatha we broke women's traditional thinking, lifted the veil and showed them the world outside the four walls. We made a strategy to place people's health in people's own hands. With “Seekhne ka Maza” (the joy of learning) we made children, teachers and parents partners in the educational process. District counts are as printed. Where they exceed today's 38, they refer to undivided Bihar — Jharkhand separated in November 2000.

The two registers close in 2020. The work did not. The Impact page carries the record on to the 12th State Conference of April 2026 — and the conference table on the Structure page now lists all twelve, from Patna in 1996 to Kaimur in 2026.
